Basilisk is a wonderful anime series of 24 episodes which is based on Futaro Yamada's novel "The kouga Ninja Scrolls" (1958). Basilisk is available now on 6 DVDs by Funimation. Below you can read a quick review of the plot. We think you are going to love it!
The story is about a man called Gennosuke and a woman called Oboro who deeply love each other but they were unlucky to belong in two different two Ninja clans, the Iga and the Kouga who always hated each other. At the beginning of the story the two clans were in a period of truce and that gave them hope to believe that maybe one day they could be together without being afraid. This ended when Ieyasu who was the shogun at that time gave to the Iga and the Kouga a reason to fight till death. In order to decide who of his two sons will be the next shogun he told the Iga and the Kouga to make two teams of their best 10 Ninjas, each team would be representing on of his sons. The son who was represented by the team who managed to survive at the end would be the next shogun. Gennosuke and Oboro will then find them self's opponents in a battle which is not about love but about survivor! Who will be the one to survive at the end and what will happen with Gennosuke's and Oboro's love?
Basilisk not only contains some amazing battles between the Ninjas of the two clans but also strong emotion and a surprising story line. Basilisk anime beautifully differs from other stereotype anime series. If you are still not convinced, read some episode reviews.
